About Us

We are a modular model railroad group located in Maryland. Our goal is to have fun, work on our skills as modelers, and help increase the visibility of the model railroad hobby.

This group is not a physical club or reliant on any one person’s private layout for running trains. Instead, we operate from an email list (Join Here!) where we schedule meets at NMRA, RPM, and other train shows. We also set up the modules at venues such as libraries and community centers. We display our work on our blog (click here).

The group railroad is the Baltimore Midland Railroad (BMR, known locally as the “Basic Maryland Railroad”), but people who operate with us can build modules and scenes based on their favorite prototypes. Examples include scenes from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, Nickel Plate Road, Illinois Central, and many others. Our only guidance is you model a prototype east of the Rocky Mountains because we want to keep scenery based on the east coast.

Our modules are based on the O Scale Central Modular Standard. The layout is powered by NCE’s DCC system, though some of our modelers use battery power in their engines. As part of our mission of increasing the visibility of the hobby, if you do not have your own equipment, we will happily let you use ours!
